Are your benefits going to renew sometime during the next 2-3 months?

If so, now may be a chance to plan how you’re going to use them, or even try something new. Whether it’s acupuncture, chiropractic, massage or craniosacral therapy, there may be something new for you to bring your health and wellbeing to the next level during these cold and darker months. We are accepting New Patients for all treatments that we offer, just reach out to our front desk team and let us do the rest!

Jet Lag and Daylight Saving Shiatsu (Acupressure ) Treatment

By Michaella Rezanoff, R.Ac.

Crossing of time zones, especially when flying east to west disrupts our body’s natural 24 hour biological clock causing “jet lag” . Some symptoms of “jet lag” may include fatigue, edema, headache and changes in sleep patterns that can last from 1 to 10 days.

Every 24 hours, qi (internal energy/life force) circulates throughout our organs and 12 energy lines (12 primary meridians). Throughout the 24 hour biological clock, each organ/meridian system  energetically peaks every 2 hours and at the same time, energy is weakened from its 12 hour opposite organ/meridian system.

Resetting your internal clock

jet lag chartWhile still in flight, your body can reset on its own by changing your qi’s clock to the new time zone making it possible for you to arrive at your destination feeling connected to that time zone, instead of the one you departed from.

Stimulating Pressure Points

Using the end of a closed pen, capped pen, toothpick or other blunt object , rub briskly back and forth over the point 25-30 times in short blasts of 5 strokes. This will provide the stimulation needed to produce good results.

Directions:

  • At departure, set your watch to your destination time.
  • Find the current time of your destination on the chart.
  • Find the pressure point corresponding with the two hour time frame.
  • Rub the point with the tip of a closed pen on both sides of your body, 25-30 times in short blasts of 5 strokes.
  • Continue rubbing each of the subsequent two hour points every two hours until you arrive at the destination.
  • If you fall asleep, upon awakening continue to rub the corresponding point for the two hour time you are in.
  • Upon arrival, rub the corresponding two hour point.

If you have trouble adjusting to Day Light Saving time, use these points to assist in your new sleep patterns.

Visit your acupuncturist within a day or two upon your return to lessen your jet lag symptoms.

Heads, Shoulders, Knees & Toes

Greetings from Dr. Heather (+Murphy).

Most of us have heard the “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” diddy, but if you haven’t, check it out! The chiropractors here at Glow check all of our joints at times, even if it is a long way from the area in your body you are complaining about, because this song is actually true! All of our parts are connected; even jaw pain can be partially caused by how aligned your hips, knees or even your feet are. If you know of someone with knee, foot or hip or shoulder concerns, send them in for a more thorough assessment than they’ve ever had 😀.

Back to our song now!

See you soon!

What Is Intraoral Massage?

By Sergio, RMT

intraoral massage exampleIntraoral massage is a manual therapy that focuses on massaging the muscles inside the mouth. It is used to relieve discomfort and pain from injury, stiff jaw, TMJ dysfunction, tinnitus, dental work, emotional stress, and more. It is also used as a cosmetic treatment (known as buccal massage) because it helps reduce the signs of aging.

The treatment involves massaging the masseter muscles externally to warm this area up, then, medical gloves are worn to massage the intraoral muscles.

For Intraoral massage, the thumb is used on the outside, and the index finger on the inside, gently applying adjusted pressure to the patient’s comfort and compressing target muscles, holding and releasing them in steady intervals.

Massaging stiff and tender muscles can be uncomfortable in the beginning, especially when working on painful trigger points. I start slow with light strokes and then intensify the pressure.

Occasionally, some clients feel short bursts of pain, but most report feeling only discomfort at first, followed by relaxation.

After intraoral massage, the client’s face, neck, shoulders, and/or scalp can be massaged. The whole treatment lasts 30-60 minutes and will leave you feeling relaxed, refreshed and asking yourself why you haven’t tried it before!
